Back in October 2019 or even around the New Year celebration, no one thought that there would soon be a time coming when everyone would be forced to stay isolated at home and people would be afraid to go near other people but this is a reality now. Coronavirus spreads when a healthy person comes in contact with the carrier of the virus and it can keep transferring from one person to another until the majority of the population is immune to the virus. Countries around the world are under lockdown and governments are taking strict actions to keep their citizens at home and avoid public places. During this time, it’s obvious that schools, colleges, and universities are also closed.
This pandemic can continue for a while now as it’s been 6 months of lockdown in some countries and we might end up learning to live with this virus but until that time, we can’t just sit at home and let time pass by. If organizations are getting smarter by letting their employees stay at home and work online, why educational institutes can’t do the same? Many high-level universities and schools around the world have asked their professors and teachers to give lectures online so that students can still study while they stay at home for an indefinite time.
It’s hard to understand but it’s a fact that our lives will never be the same after this virus and the same change has affected how teachers taught their students and how students used to learn. By going online and giving lectures on the internet, teachers have to get creative and innovative to avoid getting overwhelmed or to keep their students from depression and anxiety. Below are some of the instructions and guidelines for you to follow when creating lessons and planning lectures during a lockdown situation.

Guidelines to create lessons and teach during COVID-19:
Instead of the live stream, record:
This might be going to look strange to you but it’s not a joke that when you are planning to lecture or teach your students online, you should always record your session and share the video or its link with the students instead of streaming it live. The problem with live streaming is that when you want all of your students to attend the class, there will be some students missing from the session. With the recorded version of your lecture, you can allow your students to listen to the lecture at their convenience.
Rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse:
Keep in mind that you are still the same teacher and they are still the same students as yours but the situation has changed dramatically. Now nothing is the same as before. When you are going to give a lecture or teach a particular subject to your students online, you should practice at least a couple of times before you conduct the actual session. Not only that it will allow you to streamline the flow of the information but with practice, you can shorten the duration of the lecture and by eliminating irrelevant and less important information, you can teach briefly on a specific topic.
Prepare for the session ahead of time:
While you are practicing, you should also check your equipment and other stuff that is necessary for conducting online teaching sessions. It’s not uncommon that when you are conducting a class or giving a presentation online to your students, the MIC stops working or the projector doesn’t show anything suddenly. These kinds of problems are very common and there is no way to avoid them except to check your equipment properly before the session.
Announce the session well before time:
It is very a good idea to just call all of your students and tell them to go online to attend the class. It’s possible that some of them won’t be able to make arrangements so quickly. To ensure that all of your students will have enough time to prepare and attend your online class announce the schedule well before time. You can either make a permanent schedule that will work for at least 2 weeks to 1 month or you can ask some of your students to step forward and help you by making announcements to other students and letting them know the schedule of the online session.
